This privacy statement is deliberately long and obscure. The law requires a comprehensive declaration. Lawyers suggested I use less ambiguous and simpler language . Capt. Kidd may have helped but he is not qualified, so please ignore anything you don’t like and we could maybe negotiate.
Basically by using this site you agree to the terms and conditions. Most of those boil down to not breaking the law, not stealing, or even thinking any bad thoughts. You have the right to be forgotten. Also to ask me to let you know what data I have got on you. The trouble is that I am a bit disorganised, so it might not always be easy for me to find the right stuff and respond properly in good time. I think this happens for everyone, government departments and large corporates, not just me, these days life is so complex and there is so much stuff in different places.
I will reply, not sure how long it will take. I will probably do it by email.
Some of the language that might be used here could be Legalese. Maybe Black’s Law Dictionary could be needed and might figure in any disclaimers or disclosures you might find. Frankly I don’t really understand it myself, but you are meant to agree to the terms anyway as a condition of using this site. Probably the videos are hosted on some site that has loads of legal stuff, even more than here. By watching any of that you are agreeing to those terms as well.
I will do my best and try to be honest, but who does understand all this stuff properly? Alphabet Google, Facebook, Apple and the others use weasel words and are constantly shifting the goal posts. It seems pretty clear from the Edward Snowdon revelations (amongst others), that intelligence services like GCHQ in the UK, the CIA, DARPA and the NSA in the United States, just for example, all have access to everything in any “cloud” data storage, including stuff picked up via the telly and when you had your mobile in your pocket when you thought it was not even switched on. I hope that they are better at managing data than I am. It seems to me that they lie constantly about all of it. All that stuff about spy software applications is worrying. I have done quite a few data subject access requests myself with very disappointing and confusing results. Generally it was the things that were NOT there that were the most interesting and important. I will by sympathetic if you need to get stuff from me.
As far as I understand, at the moment, the software I use includes WordPress – which is free and open source, and Stripe, for any donations. The software is supposed to be quite good, but I am not really very tech savvy. At the moment I am NOT using social media much, but that might change so I might need to update this. I suppose that the WordPress is linked up to some analytics software and I have no idea about plugins. I suppose that it automatically has cookies and collects information on IP addresses, locations, browser and operating system. Right at the moment I am too lazy to bother exploring that data. Maybe I will sometimes keep the email addresses of people foolish enough to share them to me. If I actually do anything with those, I might use free email software to send the very occasional marketing message, and you will be able to email back to unsubscribe or get your data deleted. When things are free, with IT, everyone is meant to understand that you are the product.
I do my best. As long as you are doing everything of your own Free Will, what could possibly go wrong? I am acting in good faith and mean no harm to anyone, so please be gentle.
Best wishes
Jackal.
